Chubby Cheeks victorious

Chubby Cheeks, Porvorim reigned supreme after defeating Don Bosco Oratory 4-3 via the sudden death to take home the 1st Venky’s Youth Cup in association with Blackburn Rovers Football Club, at Poriat ground, Calangute on Friday. The match ended goalless after normal time.

Campal comes alive as 118 teams drum support for rebuilding stadium

The erstwhile Campal Stadium came alive and kicking what with a record number of 118 teams indulging in spot-kicking, scores of former international, national and state footballers alongwith hundreds of fans cheering them despite heavy rains and rough weather, with just one motto – rebuild the Campal Stadium. It was a massive show of strength on Sunday.

KJ’s defend Aliens title

KJ’s Basketeers retained their title defeating Margao Basketeers 52-44 in 19th All-Goa Aliens Basketeers basketball tournament at Fr Benedict Furtado memorial sports complex, Panjim, Thursday.  Patrick Silveira (14), Akash Madgaonkar (11) and Shiva (11) combined well and top scored for KJ’s.

Andrew Friends Club grabbed honours at the 5th All-Goa weightlifting championship organised by Weightlifting Association of Goa in collaboration with SAG at Carambolim panchayat, Old Goa, recently.
Damodar Gym emerged runners-up while Vivekanand Tambli was adjudged the strongest man.

Don Bosco were leading 1-0 at the breather.

India U-16 boys all set

After being put through their paces for the past ten weeks, the India U-16 team probables are currently on trial for the next two weeks, which started on Monday at Chowgule College, Margao under the tutelage of India Academy coach Colin Toal.

Dempo SC coach Armando Colaco who was on a five-day tour to Denmark to study the academy and coaching at the FC Mitdjylland Club in Iskat, Herning Denmark was impressed with the way they have been coaching the youth.

AIFF plans glitzy opening for I-League

The All India Football Federation (AIFF) is planning to kick-start the next I-League with a bang, so as to give a boost to the 4-year-old tournament.  “We are planning to start the I-League with a bang. We would be promoting the opener in a big way with help from the Asian Football Confederation (AFC). We plan to have an opening ceremony on the lines of the ones AFC normally has for their own tournaments,” said I-League CEO Sunando Dhar, who was here to inspect Sporting Clube de Goa club.

Salgaocar’s MUPC dreams crash

After reaching the semi-finals, Salgaocar who were representing India recently returned from the Manchester United Premier Cup South East Asia finals held in Sriracha, Thailand from June 6 to 9.  Salgaocar first met Singapore at 10 a.m. Salgaocar dominated entirely and scored through Aldrich Coelho after ten minutes. Singapore scored a goal in the dying minutes to snatch a draw.

Make Campal a village ground: CCP

The Corporation of the City of Panjim (CCP) felt that the Campal stadium should be a 1200-seater ground, one like the one in villages.  Yatin Parekh, Mayor, stated that the grounds realities and sentiments of Campal residents have been taken into consideration before coming to the decision.

Sporting Clube optimistic after AFC-AIFF visit for pro-licensing

The AFC-AIFF delegation for verifying club license criteria for professional clubs looked very impressed after the visit to newly promoted Sporting Clube de Goa, Saturday.  The six-member strong delegation led by Suzuki, AFC’s Director of Competitions, and which included AIFF’s CEO Sunando Dhar and Roma Khanna and AFC’s Benjamin Tan, Steve Kim and Laksoud, inspected the facilities including the practice ground, gymnasium and home venue for the I-League matches and the club house where they interacted with the designated club officials.

Dempo crush Air India 4-0

Air India got a taste of what class is all about when they took on Dempo Sports Club who demolished them 14-0 in their clash of 4th I-League at Nehru Stadium, Fatorda, Monday. Dempo led 4-0 at the break. Air India were outplayed on both halves during which their citadel fell four times. Fortunately, the host team’s story of missed opportunities continued through to a lesser degree before they tripped to a 14-0 win.

IFA Shield champions Churchill Brothers’ hopes of securing their 4th I-League runners-up crown were buried when they lost 2-3 to 10-man Pune Football Club in their concluding match at Nehru Stadium, Fatorda, Tuesday.

Adarsh YS move into semis

MARGAO: Adarsh Yuvak Sangh, Saligao overcame a stiff challenge to defeat Goa Velha SC 4-3 via the tie-breaker and enter the semi-finals of Rossman Cruz FBM soccer at Nagoa grounds, Monday. Saligao will now meet St Sebastiao, Fatorda in the semi- finals on June 1.

Dempo beat Air-India in 14-0

MARGAO: Defending champions Dempo Sports Club created history in the Indian Football scenario on Monday when they thrashed Air-India 14-0 in the I-league football match played at Nehru Staduim,here and assured themselves of a second spot in this prestigious tournament.  Dempo were leading 4-0 at the breather, though they could have scored at least four more goals in this half itself.

Salgaocar Sports Club clinches I-League Title

LUDHIANA: Salgaocar Sports Club clinched their maiden I-League title after recording a 2-0 victory over JCT in their last round match on Monday.  The Green Brigade from Goa made short work of JCT at the Guru Nanak Stadium here to finish at the top of the I-League table on 56 points from 26 matches, beyond the reach of any other club.

Sai Avtaar lift Salgaocar Trophy

Sai Avtaar, Anjuna produced excellent moves in the one-sided final to easily curtail Pilerne Sports Club 4-0 and to lay hands on 20th Late V M Salgaocar Trophy inter-village football tournament organised by Saligao Sporting Club, at Saligao ground, on Saturday. The teams began on a promising note but it was Pilerne who held a slight edge over the rivals, but their forwards failed to convert the chances that came their way.
